Brooks Women's Addiction Walker V-Strap Walking Shoe

No More Store to Compare.

Brooks is a trusted brand perhaps most known for its line of athletic shoes but popular among people looking for diabetic and orthopedic shoes as well. One of the many features that helps Brooks stand out is their decision to offer a wide variety of different shoe widths. Many diabetics with particularly narrow or wide feet consider Brooks shoes a godsend.

Brooks was founded in 1914 as a company dedicated to making ice skates and sports shoes with cleats. The company did not become remarkably successful until the 1970s when jogging took off as a national pastime. Once rivals with Nike, Brooks lost steam in the 1980s until new owners revamped the company in the 1990s. Helen Rockey, a graduate of University of Washington and former executive at Nike, took over as president of Brooks. Rockey decided to focus the company's energy on an older demographic - running shoes for joggers between the ages of 35 and 60 - and the company once again started to pick up steam. Rockey was the first woman to run a major athletic shoe company in the United States.

Brooks Addiction Walker V-Strap

Brooks offers a wide range of athletic shoes that are great for diabetics or for other people who need a high quality shoe with excellent orthopedic support. Take the Brooks Addiction Walker 2 for Men, for example. This shoe is an excellent shock absorber with a cushioning system that Brooks dubs as Hydroflow® and an outer sole fashioned from high-density carbon rubber. The upper is made from soft, breathable leather with a seamless interior that won't trap moisture or irritate your feet.

The shoe is structured with a wedge heel that promotes stability and will be particularly helpful to people who tend to over-pronate when they walk or jog. The shoe is also designed to help redistribute pressure points - a feature that helps to reduce blisters, hotspots, calluses, corns or other foot injuries from forming. The Brooks Addiction Walker 2 can come with laces or Velcro (generally speaking, Velcro is a better alternative for diabetics as it allows you to adjust the size of the shoe often and easily).

There is also a female version of the shoe (the Brooks Addiction Walker V-Strap for Women). And the shoe comes - as mentioned above - in several different widths. Customers can choose between Regular, Wide D, Narrow 2A and Wide 2E. Brooks shoes also come in half-sizes, which makes them a particularly good choice for people who are in-between sizes, have mismatched feet, or are recovering from a foot injury.

Brooks Diabetic Shoes

Jane Barron works for OddShoeFinder.com,a free online website that helps people find mismatched footwear.Get more information on diabetic shoes, diabetes support group, or diabetes foot problems.

An extremely versatile motion-control walking shoe, the Addiction™ Walker offers strong support and cushioning, coupled with soft, supple, full-grain leathers that comfortably wrap the foot. Behind the scenes, Brooks' patented cushioning and stability systems work to guide your stride into a natural, efficient path, keeping your feet healthy and happy.

Born Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde on October 16 1854, Wilde was the second son born into a family of Anglo-Irish descent. His father, Sir William Wilde, was Ireland's leading ear and eye specialist and a renowned philanthropist. His mother, Jane Francesca Elgee was herself a successful writer and a poet for the revolutionary 'Young Irelanders. Oscar Wilder was an accomplished playwright, novelist, poet and writer of short stories. Well-known for his witty and cutting sense of humour, he was one of late Victorian London's greatest celebrities.

Wilde studied classics at Trinity College, Dublin, from 1871 to 1874. An outstanding student, he won the Berkeley Gold Medal, the highest award available to classics students at Trinity. He was also awarded a scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford, where he continued his studies from 1874 to 1878, where he became a part of the Aesthetic movement, one of its tenets being to make an art of life. While at Magdalen, he won the 1878 Newdigate Prize for his poem Ravenna. In November 1878, he graduated with a double first in classical moderations and Literae Humaniores, or 'Greats'.

Brooks Ravenna

After graduating from Magdalen, Wilde returned to Dublin, where he met and fell in love with Florence Balcombe, who, in turn became engaged to Bram Stoker. On hearing of her engagement, Wilde became distraught and wrote to her stating his intention to leave Ireland permanently. He left in 1878 and was to return to his native country only twice, for brief visits.

While In London, Wilde met Constance Lloyd, daughter of wealthy Queen's Counsel Horace Lloyd. They married on May 29, 1884 in Paddington, London. Constance's allowance of £250 allowed the Wildes to live in relative luxury. The couple had two sons, Cyril (1885) and Vyvyan (1886). She died in 1898 following spinal surgery and was buried in Staglieno Cemetery in Genoa, Italy. Cyril was killed in France in World War I. Vyvyan survived the war and went on to become an author and translator. He published his memoirs in 1954.

Wilde's sexual orientation has variously been considered bisexual, homosexual, and paederastic. He may have had significant sexual relationships with (in chronological order) Frank Miles, Constance Lloyd (his wife), Robert Baldwin Ross, and Lord Alfred Douglas ("Bosie"). Wilde also had numerous sexual encounters with working-class male youths, who were often rent boys.

Wilde had a dramatic fall from grace following a famous trial. He was convicted for having acted in 'gross indecency' and was imprisoned for two years and had to do hard labor.

Wilde died of cerebral meningitis on November 30, 1900. On his deathbed Wilde was received into the Roman Catholic church. He was buried in the Cimetière de Bagneux outside Paris but was later moved to Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.

Brooks Racer ST Racing Flat

No More Store to Compare.

Drag racing, a contest between two cars starting from dead stop to determine which car can accelerate quicker to a given point. Drag racing started in the 1930's where competitors raced along desert stretches of road to see who's hot rod was faster. Over the coming years the sport became more organized and the National Hot Rod Association was formed in 1951. 54 years later, the NHRA is now the largest sanctioning body in motorsports with over 80,000 members.

Most people probably got their start with drag racing on the streets, sitting at a light when your neighbor or friend pulls up, both of you itching for the light to finally turn green so you both can hammer the throttle and see who could get to the next light first. There's no doubt that it's exciting, anticipating the green light, just waiting for the right moment to send the tires screeching for traction to get the edge on the car just a few feet to your side.

Brooks Racer St 4

With improvements in automotive technology and manufacturing, faster and more powerful cars are being released each year. Cars on the low end include the ,000 Dodge Neon SRT-4, with a 230 horsepower turbocharged engine that can do 0-60 MPH in 5.5 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.9 seconds. High-end cars such as the 9,000 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, with it's 604 horsepower twin- turbocharged V12 engine can do 0-60 in less than 4 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 11.6 seconds. These cars are made to be fun and exciting, but it's important to exercise restrain on the city streets with them.

Most people who purchase a high performance vehicle want to take it out and see what it can do, especially against other cars. While it's tempting to do this on the city streets, it's also very dangerous. Not only are there severe penalties for drag racing on public roads, it also endangers many others on the street. Many lives have been lost due to drag racing contests on city streets.

There are hundreds of places to test our your car's performance in a safe and regulated environment, your local Drag Strip. Drag racing facilities are specially equipped for testing how quick you can get your car from 0 to 1320 feet, more commonly known as the 1/4 mile. Most tracks operate in a similar fashion and have special nights set aside for normal street cars to "test and tune" or drag race the 1/4 mile for a nominal fee of - . The track will have paramedics and other safety personal ready to respond to any accidents should they occur.

Each car that will be racing is given a tech inspection to make certain that is safe to compete in the 1/4 mile contest. After the car has passed inspection, it's time to line up and get ready to race. Two cars are signaled by track personnel to pull up to the staging area, a portion of the track used to line up the two cars evenly at the starting line. The Christmas Tree is a setup of lights used to line up both cars and signal the start of the race.

At the top of the Christmas Tree are the Pre-Stage bulbs, as the drivers pull slowly forward to the starting line, they will activate the Pre-Stage bulbs. These bulbs indicate the cars are very close to the starting line. As the drivers continue to move slowly forward, the 2nd set of bulbs, the Stage bulbs will illuminate. When both Pre-Stage and Stage bulbs for both cars are illuminated, the cars are lined up and ready to go. At this point the track personal will activate the Christmas Tree to start the race.

Upon activation, the Christmas Tree will begin flashing a series of lights. Starting from under the Stage bulbs, there are 3 amber lights, followed by a green light, and then finally a red light. Each light is flashed a half-second apart ; amber - amber - amber - green. Once the green lights are on, both cars should be rocketing down the drag strip 1320 feet towards the finish line. If either car leaves the starting line too quickly, the red light is flashed, and that car automatically loses the race.

After passing through the finishing line there will be a long stretch of road to allow the cars to slow down. There are usually a few exits from the track along the way for the cars to turn around and head back to the timeslip booth to pickup a printed ticket containing the details of their race. The timeslip will usually show how long in seconds it took to get to various points down the track; 60', 330' , 1000', and 1320'. It will also data on how fast the car was traveling in MPH at the half-way point (1/8 mile) and finish line (1/4 mile), and of course who won the race.

Racing at the drag strip is a great way to safely and legally test out the capabilities of your car while improving your driving skills at the same time. It's also a great place to meet up with other people with similar interests. So the next time your sitting at a stop light and the car next to you is instigating you into a drag race by revving his engine, tell 'em to take it off the street and to the strip!

Louise Brooks the Scandalous Icon

Louise Brooks was easily the most recognizable flapper at the peak of her popularity, in the 1920s. She was an actress, model, and dancer. Louise Brooks is generally credited with popularizing the stereotypical flapper haircut, as her dark hair was cut in a blunt, boyish bob. Interestingly enough, this haircut was inadvertent - it was merely how she had worn her hair since she was a child. Brooks was born November 14, 1906, in the rural town of Cherryvale, Kansas. Even at a young age, she knew she wanted to be a performer. She would put on vaudeville-style routines for her family and friends. When she was in high school, her family moved out west to California. It was then that she was discovered by a producer who was impressed by her dancing in a chorus line. Louise became a movie star.

Brooks

Tragically, like many films from the early days of Hollywood, some of Louise's most important films are missing. They are considered lost forever, either through bureaucratic snafus or, more commonly, film-wiping penny pinching. These roles include her leads in A Social Celebrity and The American Venus. The UCLA film archive offers a reward to anyone who can prove conclusively that they have fragments or full reels of a lost film. Despite some of her work being destroyed, Louise still stands as the quintessential and has a core, cult fan base. Her films have been restored and re-released by the Criterion collection. It was in film that Louise found most success.

Louise Brooks' most famous role is her starring role in famous director G.W. Pabst' Pandora's Box. The film was controversial (as many things were during the reluctant early 20s) because of its stark portrayal of contemporary sexuality. It even featured, quite shockingly for the time, the first lesbian film character. In Pandora's Box, Brooks' character, Lulu, enjoys a promiscuous lifestyle. She sleeps around with various men and extorts gifts, like jewelry and clothing from them - the classic gold digger. Lulu continues to muck about in an irresponsible manner. Her bad behavior and disregard for other people eventually leads to her own unraveling and the destruction of those who love her. Like most of her films, this was a box-office smash. She received thousands of fan letters and

By the 1940s, Louise had become disenchanted with her flapper style and Hollywood. She perceived it to be an industry created solely on money and shunning actual cinematic art. The switch from silent films to films with sound, called talkies, did not do much for her career. Brooks' voice was deemed unsuitable for talking pictures. She dropped out of the movie industry but struggled to find success in other areas. Brooks flitted between being a gossip columnist, an aspiring writer, a radio actress, and, during one stint of desperation, a prostitute. However her life was not to be entirely sad. In the 1950s, Louise Brooks was rediscovered by film historians and hailed as greater than Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich. Film historians personally purchased her a New York apartment and gave her a stipend, so that she would be able to live out her remaining years peacefully. Louise Brooks died of a heart attack on August 8, 1985.
